Meet Jon Christopher

(...cont'd from home page) Jon surrendered himself to music from the time he picked up a guitar at age 14 in Long Island, NY.  His appreciation of a mosaic of artists like Cat Stevens, Seal, U2, Kings of Leon, Joan Armatrading, and D'Angelo has inspired him to create a Jon Christopherhot blend of rock, blues and soul.  "Jon's presence on stage is powerful, his songwriting is fresh and unique, and his voice is full of passion. He will be a force to be reckoned with," says Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night.  Jon Christopher has performed on such media outlets as the Austin Music Network, Fox Morning News, and KLBJ 93.7 FM radio.  He was recently featured singing his hit song Another Drop of Rain on KXAN TV Austin News at Noon, and You Are Alive on KEYE TV Austin Live.  Jon has spent the majority of his adult life between Austin, Texas and New York City, playing venues such as LIC Bar, Cutting Room, Bitter End, La Zona Rosa, Gypsy Lounge, Cactus Cafe, the Knitting Factory, Waltz-Astoria, and Spike Hill.

Jon Christopher's intimate songwriting, coupled with a passionate, husky voice, comes across on every track.  "The album's theme is overcoming hurdles and being on the better end of things.  I learned how to become a songwriter onthis album.  I spent about a year writing songs with meaning that are fun, too," Jon says.  It's just a reminder which encourages us to keep moving forward and to never stare back.  Like he says in Keep Singing Your Song, "Let them sleeping dogs lie and let God play his games in the sky, Ain't no use wondering why, just keep on moving on."  Jon captures honesty and reality that makes you want to keep singing your song.  The chilling voal delivery of Want Me Now, the stripped down poetry of You Are Alive and head-bopping grooves of Another Drop of Rain and Save Another are proof that Jon Christopher's new record melts boundaries and transcends genre.  It has all the right ingredients, most importantly a passion that will be apparent to his listeners from the moment they press play.  It was recorded in Austin, TX with producer Billy White over a seven month period.  White did the programming, played the electric bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and percussion, and JJ Johnson was on drums (formerly of the John Mayer Trio).  The songs were topped off with the sweet, soulful backup vocals of Sasha Ortiz, Tameca Jones, and Pam Miller.  The record was mixed by Dave Boyle at his own Church House Studios on the East Side of Austin.  In addition to mixing the tracks, Boyle played piano, clavinet, organ and the Wurlitzer.  Austin, Texas NPR-affiliate, KUT 90.5 FM, featured Jon Christopher for its Austin Music Minute.  DJ Lauri Gallardo said of the album, "...I apologize in advance for my language, but I'm compelled to say:  This is kickin' some major ass.  Thank you."
